This splendid Maison de Maitre dates back to 1825. The six bedroom, six bathroom accommodation amounts to 420 square metres or 4,520 square feet. Total capacity is 16 guests. It is a very large house!
The house was originally the residence of a Huguenot family called Robillard, (whose initials are over the main entrance gate) who were prominent characters in the local region. Now it is an elegant country house with lots of modern facilities but retaining the character consistent with its history.
The front faces the sunrise and the back the sunset so it is always light and airy. It does get pretty warm here in the summer, however with shutters on all the windows and doors and insulated walls over two feet thick, it is easily regulated. Should you be thinking of a winter break the house is fully centrally-heated and has a large open fire in the lounge for cosy winter nights.
Facing the garden and with delightful views across the valley, there is a huge country kitchen with a handmade solid oak table which seats sixteen. There is also an eight foot breakfast bar with stools which is great for feeding the children and for sitting at with a glass of Pineau (local fortified wine which is served chilled) while someone else makes the dinner!

There is a flatscreen TV in the kitchen with a hardrive attached with hundreds of films.
Across the other side of the entrance hallway is the large comfortable lounge with ornate carved ceiling and views across the garden and pool. In this lovely room are three sofas arranged around the original open fireplace.
The house has two bedrooms on the ground floor. The first bedroom, suitable for couples, has a king-sized bed and an en-suite bathroom with full sized bath and overhead shower with toilet, bidet and twin sinks.
The main downstairs family bedroom has a king-sized bed with two additional singles, intended primarily to be a children’s room as it has a big TV and DVD player. It contains two couches and a coffee table. The shower room with toilet and sink for this bedroom is opposite the hallway.
Upstairs there are a further four bedrooms, all with en-suite facilities.
The large, spacious master suite, suitable for a couple, faces the back garden with a beautiful view across the gardens and valley. It has a king-sized bed and a huge bathroom with large corner bath, double shower, toilet and double sink.
The other back-facing, family-sized bedroom (with same lovely view), sleeps 4 and has a king-sized bed with two additional singles. It has an en-suite bathroom with a large corner bath with a shower attachment, a bidet, sink and toilet.
The third bedroom, facing the front and overlooking the front gardens and entrance, is suitable for a couple or travelling companions as it is a twin room with two three-foot singles. It has an en-suite bathroom with bath and over-head shower, plus a sink and toilet.
The fourth family bedroom, light, bright and airy and facing the front, has a king-sized bed with a full-sized cot. There is an en-suite bathroom, with bath and over-head shower and, separate to that, an en-suite toilet. A travel cot is also available, do let us know if you need it.
The house has free wifi internet access, and flat screen TV’s with video renders to access the 250 films on the house NAS drive. There are also multi-region DVD players and a SONOS music system which you can connect wirelessly to your Spotify account and which can be played throughout the house and even on the terrace if desired. Domestic equipment includes combination microwave/convection/grill oven, large additional oven, dishwasher, washing machine (there is a large airer in the kitchen for drying) plus toaster, kettle and everything else you would expect. The bed linen is all Egyptian cotton with hypo-allergenic pillows and duvet covers, the cutlery is Viners and the crockery is Denbywear, so you can be assured that everything is of the highest quality.
Outside on the terrace there is a large outdoor glass table seating twelve and a drum-style BBQ with side racks and BBQ tools in stainless steel. This is where we spend most of our time in the summer as there is shade from the acacia trees and a safe playing area for the children. Also from here (and from the kitchen too) there is a clear view of the swimming pool.
From the main house one looks over the gardens down to the pool. On the way to the pool is the table tennis room where many a table tennis competition has been bravely fought!
