We stayed for one week in August and had the perfect week.  The house is beautiful, everything is comfortable and well furnished, a real home from home.  The pool is brilliant and where we spent most of the days.  Then sitting on the patio watching the sun set while eating a BBQ, wonderful.  Communication was great with Sara and Jamieson.  Honestly wonderful experience and would love to return.

Superb estate, large, quiet space for children. Successful family reunion. We contacted a caterer from St Jean d’Angély who delivered to the estate morning and evening hot dishes of high quality and reasonable prices. Boucherie Traiteur Jarry tel: 05 46 32 02 50

Petit Champagné is the place we love to rent for our family reunions. For a weekend, this charming place allows us to get together, all 3 generations, either on the terrace, in the garden and in/by the swimming pool. The house is very well equipped and makes life together very easy.

The place is beautifully maintained, the view is soothing, the atmosphere is rejuvenating…. We fell in love with the estate.

The chateau is spectacular and utterly charming.  John & Kirsten were very helpful and friendly throughout our stay

In particular we loved the peaceful and beautiful location of the chateau; the incredibly well stocked kitchen; the comfortable beds and high quality linen.

We had a lovely stay at the château in August 2022. The house is classically French and spacious. The star of the show is the outside space. There’s outdoor speakers, a lovely long sloping garden with trees for shade, a huge pool and lounger area and you’re surrounded by sunflower fields. The owners were easy to get hold of when we had questions. All in all a brilliant holiday, we’d definitely go back.

We had the most amazing week. The house and its setting are stunning. We were a group of 14, comprising of 7 children and 7 adults (ranging from the ages of 11 months to 70 years old). Thankfully the house was huge so there was plenty of space for everyone. Most of the days were spent by the pool or eating on the terrace. All in all a very relaxing week and we would definitely recommend.

We had an absolutely wonderful time at the Chateau when we stayed in July. Tucked away behind big trees and an impressive iron gate, the place held a special magic for us the moment we passed the gate. Majestic and yet familiar, elegant and yet rustic, old and yet equipped with the most modern amenities, Petit Champagne manages to impress and comfort at the same time. It made us instantly feel at home whilst allowing us to breathe and relax.

The large entrance hall was a joy to enter. Simply fabulous. The big rooms with high ceilings didn’t disappoint either: full of light and kept nice and airy. No unnecessary stuff anywhere. Thanks to the shutters, we had darkness at night whilst the thick stone walls kept the temperatures at the perfect level.

One of our favourite parts was sitting at the large table on the terrace looking through wonderful old and bent trees over a huge garden down the pool and beyond – and then looking far into the horizon across a treeline, sunflowerfields and into beautiful skies.

The kids loved the pool which is enormous and very well looked after. There was hardly any motivation to leave the Chateau.

We also found the owners extremely helpful and yet respectful of our privacy. All the practicalities from booking to paying to arranging the handover of the keys and leaving were dealt with without any problems and quite flexibly.

Needless to say, the place was spotless and beautifully arranged upon our arrival.

We wish we had stayed longer….

A group of 12 of us (family & friends) stayed in July. We had a fabulous relaxing time at the Chateau.

On arrival Karele greeted us and gave us the tour. All the rooms are impressively sized (the website photos belie the true scale of the place)

Every meal was enjoyed on the terrace which has the perfect aspect over the grounds & pool.

A lot of thought has gone into making the place well setup for holiday enjoyment – e.g. the indoor & outdoor games, barbeque, exterior lighting, multiroom sound system (including outside speakers) to the kitchen equipment and beer & wine chilling capacity!

The pool was very impressive and any fear we had before arrival of it not being heated were soon swept away. We spent many happy hours in and around the pool.

The whole grounds are very private and we felt relaxed that the party atmosphere we were enjoying was not inconveniencing neighbours.

Thanks Jamieson for sharing your lovely home. We shall return.

Masses of space, a brilliant location, lovely grounds and a huge pool: a superb setting for gathering family and friends

From a quiet country road in gently rolling countryside, pass through wrought iron gates up a driveway into five acres of woodland, lawns and sunflowers.

We stayed in this gorgeous Maison de Maître which has masses of space inside but also outside.

Petit Champagné is perfect for spending sultry days in sun and shade, lazing on a lounger with a book while the little ones play in the huge pool.

The house (also called Chateau) has enormous high-ceilinged rooms, a large kitchen, ideal for big family meals, and a flexible range of bedrooms.

Bathrooms are a mix of modern and more traditional. Décor is neutral throughout with touches of period character: cornices, exposed beams and stone fireplaces.

Rise early and watch hares and deer from the south-facing rooms before breakfasting on the terrace.

Historic St Jean D’Angely, riding, cycling, fishing and good walking are all nearby, so too are the exquisite Île de Ré and the beaches of the dazzling Atlantic coast. Shops and restaurants are just ten minutes’ drive.

Delightfully spacious and comfortable and can easily be kept cool in hot weather.  The property was clean, well maintained and very well appointed.  Within easy reach of St Jean d’Angely.  We have stayed in many properties in this area which we love….this is our favourite

Great for a large family reunion
We had a great family stay here, big and spacious with plenty of room for my family from Ireland. The pool was amazing; we asked for the alarm to be turned off and the people looking after the property were very quick to sort it. Owner is very responsive as well with any queries we had. the grounds are lovely with a big garden out the back. Local town is a 10 min cycle away where we got daily bread and croissants. As there were 15+ of us, we needed extra outside tables / chairs again, which they were happy to sort out quickly – not a problem.

We stayed in this property in August. We were a party of 14 including Young and teenage children. We had a super time. The property is beautiful, with great grounds & pool. It was sufficiently spacious to accommodate 3 separate families. We would definitely stay again.

Really didn’t want to leave …..!!

Seventeen of us had the time of our lives at this wonderful chateau. Massive rooms and space everywhere meant all the kids could wander around safely. Amazingly well equipped kitchen and a great outside dining table with plenty of chairs meant that dinner drifted into sundown and the stars coming out before retiring to large comfortable beds. The pool was a big hit with the children and the whole place was a big hit with the adults. The number of times somebody said “you know what …. I could live here” must have set a record. It was a real wrench to leave, but it will be great to go back!!

“A beautiful family home from home”

What a lovely peaceful setting, surrounded by fields of sunflowers. The chateau was spacious, comfortable, clean and very homely. There were 18 of us staying, including 7 young children. We all had an amazing time. The pool was a big hit with the children, along with the trampoline. The adults enjoyed the pool and leisurely evening meals on the terrace. Fabrice was on hand and was extremely helpful and very efficient too. We all enjoyed ourselves immensely and wouldn’t hesitate to return sometime. Thank you Jamieson and Karele, for letting us stay in your lovely home.

This is a really excellent gite, exceptionally well supplied, extremely comfortable and a has a superb pool. We enjoyed being outside in the large grounds with views over the sunflower fields as well as being inside, choosing from the large selection of movies on hand. The information the owner supplied was really useful and the gite is well located–an easy drive to the lovely beaches of the Cote Sauvage as well as to some very interesting chateaux. The local town, St Jean d’Angeley, is charming and has an excellent market. We heartily recommend this gite and hope to return sometime!

We had a truly fantastic holiday at the beautiful Petit Champagne. We were a large family group of mixed ages, including young children , teenagers and grandparents. The house is enormous, plenty of space for everyone but also cosy and welcoming. The garden and grounds are lovely too, very tranquil, along with the excellent pool area brilliant for chilling. The surrounding countryside is peaceful but with plenty of interesting places to visit. We loved Rochefort with it’ s Saturday market. Other favourites were the I’le de Re, we loved La Flotte, Saintes, La Rochelle and nearby St. Jean D’Angely which has a lovely riverside area and is a pretty and interesting town. All in all we would thoroughly recommend.

The house is a spacious size. which was perfect as we went with a party of 14 (5 children, 9 adults) and we all agreed that we had plenty of room for living in and with each other. The surrounding is so idyllic it’s breathtakingly beautiful. The pool is a good size. And has nice clean slabs around it with sun loungers. A trampoline (which the children went on most days) It had a bbq area just outside the back door and a large table and chairs perfect for a large family. Bbq worked well and again was a large size. The area surrounding the house is great for bike riding and walking as there is a vast amount of land. With scenic views (have your camera ready) The local town is beautiful with amazing restaurants, bars, shops etc. And a 45 minute drive to la rochelle beach/town. Me and my family would highly recommend this house. And would definitely revisit. We did have a power cut but after making a short call (which the owner had left contact numbers and restaurants recommendations etc in a folder, as a welcome pack) was quickly dealt with and we experienced no further problems.

The house was a very welcome sight after the long journey and 50-minute drive from La Rochelle airport. You turn in to the big white gates and there it is, quite grand looking but not ostentatious. Inside everything is so spacious – the hall, the kitchen, the lounge, all the bedrooms have plenty of space. It worked out so well for our party of 15 (8 adults, 4 teens, 3 kids). Some of the bathrooms look very new and luxurious, whilst other bathrooms have older suites but still perfectly nice and functional. We spent lots of time outside. The pool is great but slightly too deep for the youngest members of our party. The location is peaceful and rural. It’s about 50 minutes into La Rochelle centre and about 1 hour from Ile de Re. I recommend St Savinien (15 minutes away) for little ones. Overall a great house and location. The owner was exceedingly helpful, starting from our initial enquiry, up to the approach to our stay and also during our stay when there was an astoundingly fast response to a request to fix a slight plumbing problem! Highly recommended.

Arriving at the gite was easy thanks to the directions provided by the owner, Jamieson, who also telephoned to check that we didn’t have any hold ups en route to delay us – a nice gesture. We found everything to be as the description promised – and then some! – a superb sunny and tranquil location that was blessed with sunshine for more than 12 hours a day.

There was plenty of space in all the rooms for our party of ten, a bonus with four young grandchildren about when they weren’t asking to go swimming again! The bedrooms and facilities were just as you would expect for a recently completed conversion – one of extremely high standard of finish. I certainly wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this property to our friends who wish to visit this delightful region of France. There is so much to see and do – even we couldn’t visit everywhere we wished, there just wasn’t the time! This was our second visit to the region and there are still plenty of places that we must try to visit at some time so Jamieson be warned – we may be back!

Unlike other properties that we have stayed at, Jamieson was the ideal host – never intrusive, if there was a problem at all (ours was running out of gas!) a quick text or phone call and it was sorted out within a very short time. If you just want to relax, Petit Champagne is ideal but it is also perfect for visiting further afield- beaches, zoos, aquariums, Futuroscope, Saintes and the Cognac houses are all within easy reach by the excellent road links. You can do as little or as much as you want!
